Face recognition: component-based versus global approaches
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present a component-based method and two global methods for face recognition and evaluate them with respect to robustness against pose changes. In the component system we first locate facial components, extract them, and combine them into a single feature vector which is classified by a support vector machine (SVM). The two global systems recognize faces by classifying a single feature vector consisting of the gray values of the whole face image. In the first global system we trained a single SVM classifier for each person in the database. The second system consists of sets of view-specific SVM classifiers and involves clustering during training. We performed extensive tests on a database which included faces rotated up to about 40 in depth. The component system clearly outperformed both global systems. 2003 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

A Novel Approach for Face Recognition Using PCA and Artificial Neural Network
Face recognition is a biometric tool for verification and authentication a facial recognition based verification system can further be deemed a computer application for automatically verifying or identifying a person in a digital image. Analytic (local features based) and holistic (global features based) are the two common approaches employed for face recognition approaches with acceptable succ...
متن کاملImplementation of Face Recognition Algorithm on Fields Programmable Gate Array Card
The evolution of today's application technologies requires a certain level of robustness, reliability and ease of integration. We choose the Fields Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) hardware description language to implement the facial recognition algorithm based on "Eigen faces" using Principal Component Analysis. In this paper, we first present an overview of the PCA used for facial recognition,...
متن کاملVideo-based face recognition in color space by graph-based discriminant analysis
Video-based face recognition has attracted significant attention in many applications such as media technology, network security, human-machine interfaces, and automatic access control system in the past decade. The usual way for face recognition is based upon the grayscale image produced by combining the three color component images. In this work, we consider grayscale image as well as color s...

متن کاملCoupled principal component analysis based face recognition in heterogeneous sensor networks
In this paper, we construct heterogeneous sensor networks (HSN) for face recognition and propose a novel approach named coupled principal component analysis (CPCA) that uses a feature-based representation for heterogeneous face images. We first employ local binary patterns (LBP) to capture the local structure of face images, and then propose CPCA to obtain the global face information. The propo...
